A review of human and animal studies showed some toxic chemicals commonly found in the environment had a bigger effect on pregnant women who had high levels of stress, researchers wrote in PLOS ONE. Pregnant women who had high stress levels and smoked were about twice as likely to have a low birth-weight baby as those who had low levels of stress and smoked.

Researchers tested 59 baby teethers for 26 possible endocrine-disrupting chemicals that may cause developmental, neurological and reproductive health risks and found that all contained bisphenol A, bisphenol S or bisphenol F, despite BPA-free labels on almost 90% of the teethers. The findings in the journal Environmental Science & Technology also showed various parabens and antimicrobials such as triclosan and triclocarban in most of the teethers.
