Tristan Grimbert, the President and CEO of EDF Renewables North America, shares his insights on all the big renewable energy proposals coming out of the Biden administration, the power outage in Texas, transmission needs and some of the challenges the US solar industry supply chain is facing related to China.

Why it matters: Yep. As part of my "real" job I decided to launch a podcast about renewable energy. In this episode, I talk with EDF Renewables President and CEO Tristan Grimbert about all the big infrastructure proposals being put forth by the US government, the power outage in Texas and some of the challenges the US solar industry supply chain is facing related to China.

Of course, our talk wasn't ALL business. Tristan is a proud Frenchman who now lives in San Diego, so I couldn't resist getting his take on the heated rivalry between French wine and California wine. He also surprised me with a great tip on where to buy quality French wine for a tasty price.

Solar supply chain racing to cut ties with forced labor

China may control much of the global solar supply chain, but that won't stop governments, the Solar Energy Industries Association and companies from cutting ties with suppliers in Xinjiang that may be using forced labor. Establishing new suppliers may slow solar industry growth and delay some US projects, per SEIA, but it's absolutely necessary because we "cannot have the energy transition come with the cost of forced labor," said European Parliament member Anna Cavazzini.

Alaska Airlines fulfills child's wish to be an airline pilot

When Make-a-Wish offered a wish to a critically ill child named Tristan, the 11-year-old boy knew just what to ask for: he wanted to be an Alaska Airlines pilot. Alaska Airlines made his wish come true with a custom-made uniform, welcome letter and official pilot identification card, plus simulator time with pilots and lunch with CEO Brad Tilden.
