Howard U. celebrates graduate Harris' role as VP

Members of Howard University's Showtime Marching Band were part of the inaugural parade for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the first graduate of a historically Black institution to ascend to one of the top two governing roles in the US. "We need only point to Kamala Harris when telling our children that anything they can imagine, they can achieve," university President Wayne Frederick said in a statement.

Kamala Harris is the first graduate of a historically Black college or university to become the vice president-elect of the US, having graduated in 1986 from Howard University, where she was active in politics, a member of the debate team and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
