Study: Change hand-off protocols to improve care
Changing hand-off protocols among physicians and nurses between shifts could lead to better care and lower mortality, according to a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine. University of Michigan researchers who studied 23 shift hand-off sessions found physicians spent too much time talking about the first patients on the list and rushed through cases at the end, even though those patients may have needed more attention.
