Hormone disorder plus contraceptive use raises women's clot risk
The risk of venous thromboembolism was two times higher in women with polycystic ovary syndrome who took oral contraceptives compared with other women who used oral contraceptives. Researchers looked at records from a health insurance database that includes 43,500 women with polycystic ovary syndrome. The study appeared online in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
