Minn. bill would expand free lunch program by 61,500 students
Students who qualify for reduced-price meals would be eligible for free school meals in Minnesota under legislation being considered by state lawmakers -- a move that would expand free meals to 61,500 more students statewide. Supporters say the move will ensure that no students who cannot afford to pay are denied a meal and will help prepare disadvantaged students to learn. Critics, however, say it makes parents less accountable in the process.
