Ky. district provides collaboration, coaches for teachers
Professional development is called "professional learning" in the Lexington, Ky., public-school system, says superintendent Paul Ash, who credits its ongoing program with improving student test scores. The program offers a mix of seminars, workshops and classes with continuous development opportunities such as teacher collaboration teams, coaches and peer mentors. "The evidence is overwhelming -- professional learning turns a good school system into a great one," Ash said.
