Hire for skills and experience, not job titles
More than half of hiring managers say they only consider applicants who have already held the job title that they're hiring for, but such a strategy isn't effective, Matt Ferguson writes. "The focus should instead be on finding similarity between occupations based on the knowledge, skills and abilities they require," he writes. "... If you can only get a job by having had that job, how can you move forward? It's a paradox that companies can help fix."
