$200M Texas arts center aims to balance history, utility
Architects working on the design for San Antonio's Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, which has a budget of $200 million, say they want to preserve the classic features of the Municipal Auditorium while meeting the requirements of a modern theater building. "What we have is a historic building that is treasured in the community," said Mark Reddington, a partner at LMN Architects, which leads the design-build team. "The question was, how can you preserve and restore this historic building and transform it into something that meets the contemporary needs of a performance venue?"
