Calif. utilities commission to probe San Onofre nuclear plant outage
The California Public Utilities Commission will open an investigation into the extended outage of Units 2 and 3 of the San Onofre nuclear plant in San Clemente, which has been offline since January because of "design flaws and fabrication errors" in $700 million worth of steam generators. Plans have been submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to restart Unit 2. Meanwhile, a leaky pipeline in Unit 2 has been repaired, and the flammable hydrogen gas that leaked out posed no danger, according to Southern California Edison, the plant's operator.
