Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel will review safety data next year for retinyl palmitate and oxybenzone in sunscreen. Earlier this year, consumer advocacy organization Environmental Working Group reported that retinyl palmitate may be carcinogenic in the presence of sunlight, and oxybenzone may be a hormone disrupter. Dermatologist caution that the findings have not been proven, and the proper use of sunscreen is proven to protect against skin cancer.
