BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins felt confident enough about his company's future to take on Apple, suggesting in an interview that Apple's user interface technology is now outdated. "[T]he rate of innovation is so high in our industry that if you don't innovate at that speed you can be replaced pretty quickly. The user interface on the iPhone, with all due respect for what this invention was all about is now five years old," Heins said. In a speech, he said BlackBerry's success does not solely depend on the fortunes of its new Z10 phone because Blackberry had become a "mobile computing company."
