Teacher preparation is likely to be a major focus for policymakers in the new year, observers say following an announcement that school chiefs in 25 states intend to make changes to the way new teachers are trained and licensed. Participating states will work to implement recommendations contained in a report released by the Council of Chief State School Officers. Among other things, the group suggests teacher-certification standards be aligned with "college- and career-ready standards."
