Medicare to cover more skilled care
The Obama administration agreed to end a policy requiring Medicare beneficiaries to show a likelihood of medical or functional improvement before Medicare would pay for skilled nursing and therapy services. Under the new policy, Medicare will pay for skilled care necessary to maintain the patient's condition or prevent deterioration. The policy change settles a class-action lawsuit.
