Former president of the University of North Carolina, Erskine Bowles, says in this interview that higher education must get "the biggest bang for the taxpayer bucks," especially in a time of dwindling state support. "[F]ixing our debt and our deficit is not optional. It is mandatory. For all of us who are concerned about the education of our young people, this issue should be at the top of the list," Bowles said.
