Philadelphia parks, shelters will have funding restored
The Philadelphia City Council voted to restore more than $37 million previously cut from parks and recreation centers and domestic violence shelters. The city unexpectedly had an extra $49 million in the fund, which allows the council to give $2.6 million to the Department of Parks and Recreation, $3 million for 100 more beds in domestic abuse shelters, $500,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania, $600,000 to an anti-blight program and $200,000 to the city's Mural Arts Program, among other programs.
