FCC clears way for spectrum to be used for Wi-Fi
The Federal Communications Commission has given unanimous preliminary approval to a plan to allocate as much as 195 MHz of spectrum on the 5 GHz band for Wi-Fi use. The FCC is expected to finalize the decision following several weeks of public comment. The move won praise from the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, which noted the deployment of more than 100,000 Wi-Fi hotspots by cablers.
