Motivation, study habits play big role in developing math skills
Motivated students who tried to link mathematical concepts together when studying developed math skills faster than their less-motivated peers or those who learned by rote, regardless of IQ scores, according to a study published in the journal Child Development. IQ scores can predict children's mathematical ability but not their growth in math achievement, the lead researcher said.
