Calif. schools, students adjust to new meal standards
School-nutrition professionals in some California schools are getting creative when it comes to meeting federal meal standards that call for more fruits and vegetables and whole grains in lunches. Strategies include offering students plenty of choices, including salads, baby carrots, corn, whole pears, apples and oranges. Still, many school are searching for ways to manage food waste.
