Thanksgiving, a proud Spanish tradition?
The first Thanksgivings weren't celebrated by the New England Pilgrims, but rather by Spanish explorers in Florida and on the banks of the Rio Grande, Daven Hiskey writes. The celebration as we know it was institutionalized as a national holiday thanks to a 19th-century lobbying campaign by Sarah Josepha Hale, better remembered as the author of "Mary Had a Little Lamb."
