SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in SmartBrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Thursday in our e-newsletter.
Last week we asked: How prepared are you for a Labor Department wage-and-hour audit?
- Totally prepared — 46%
- Mostly prepared but would have to put a few things together — 34%
- Somewhat prepared and would require a lot of work to be ready- – 11%
- Not at all prepared — 10%
It’s great to see that 4 in 5 people would be ready for a wage-and-hour audit if the Labor Department came knocking at their door. And really, this is one time we can really thank technology for making our lives less complicated, not more. The first audit I did with an automated time and attendance system took about an hour to prep for and it was stunningly easy. Now if you have to pull manual punch cards or you have a disorganized manual filing system, that’s going to be much tougher to deal with.
