SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.
Last week, we asked: Does your company have family medical-leave benefits for same-sex partners of its employees?
- No — 68%
- Yes, the same as for married couples — 30%
- Yes, but less than married couples — 2%
If you’re looking for a silver lining as a proponent of medical-leave benefits for same-sex partners, it should be the fact that almost all of the companies that have it also agree that it should be equal to married couples. But almost 7 in 10 companies still not having these benefits is nothing to cheer about. And given the regulatory environment, I wonder if these companies will simply wait out their jurisdictions rather than being proactive.
