Stories about makers of sweet treats struck a note with SmartBrief’s food and beverage readers this week, starting with a social media stir created by Little Debbie when the company sent a tweet indicating that one of four popular snack cakes would be discontinued.
Hostess Brands’ introduction of Bakery Petites, a new three-product premium line aimed at on-the-go snack fans, also won readers’ attention, as did Ferrero’s decision to start selling its Kinder Joy confections in the US. Mars also made the news, when the brand’s Halloween offerings proved most popular on Amazon last month.
Subway’s Fresh Forward remodeling program also proved popular. The chain is adding self-ordering kiosks and shelves to show off fresh ingredients, harking back to the original vision of founder Fred DeLuca, said CEO Suzanne Greco.
