GAO reports flaws in FDA's management of drug shortage data

Elements of the FDA's management of drug shortage data are not consistent with federal internal control standards, according to a Government Accountability Office report on the drug shortage problem. The agency didn't develop procedures or policies for the management of the data and has failed to perform routine analyses, according to the GAO. The report analyzes trends and shortages and reviews studies of possible causes.
