Pentagon might begin planning for sequestration, Panetta says

The Pentagon will start preparing for automatic spending cuts that will take place if Congress does not act to stop them, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told members of the House Budget Committee this week. Asked by lawmakers why he had not yet begun planning for sequestration, which would take $500 billion from the Defense Department, Panetta said there was little he could do to prepare for what he called "meat-ax" cuts.
