Price tag of obesity-related disease: $93 billion a year

Results of an HHS-sponsored study shows that treatment of obesity-related diseases costs America $93 billion annually, which is comparable to the financial toll of smoking-related disease. HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson stressed the need for the fast-food industry "to do what is right for Americans" by providing low-calorie options and encouraging "healthier living."
