What are the advantages of AP and dual-credit courses?

Options such as dual-credit and Advanced Placement courses allow students to earn college credits while still in high school; however, opinions differ on which path is best. Some say both types of courses have challenges related to quality and whether colleges will accept them as credits toward a degree, but others say the courses raise the academic bar for students and can help them cut college costs.
