New York City faces cook shortage

Low cost of living and the boom of farm-to-table cuisine has made it more appealing for cooks to grow their careers in smaller communities, leaving New York City with a critical cook shortage that is hurting chefs. Peter Hoffman, owner of Back Forty West, used to have no problem sourcing experienced cooks but now gets applicants with only several months of work history from sub-par establishments.
