FTC could soon move to the complaint stage against search engines

The Federal Trade Commission might advance against 24 search engines sent earlier letters suggesting unfair business practices. The FTC wrote to AOL, Bing, Google, Yahoo and the others for more information on how the search engines return results to consumers to clearly distinguish between sponsored and organic links. Now, months after the initial letters, "The FTC will look for blatant disregard," says Marc Roth, partner in the Manatt, Phelps, and Phillips law firm.
