Vermont nursing shortage varies by specialty

The nursing shortage in Vermont may not be as severe as in other parts of the country, but a 2007 survey shows 12% of nurse anesthetist positions were vacant, along with 8% of jobs for both clinical nurse specialists and licensed practical nurses, and 6% of openings for RNs. The study found more than half of hospitals reported lower patient satisfaction or increased complaints due to the shortages.
