SNM head warns of possible isotope-supply shortage

Five nuclear reactors in Canada, Europe and South Africa that produce nearly all of the world's medical-isotope supply currently are offline because of unrelated technical problems -- a situation that could likely lead to "rationing," SNM President Robert Atcher said. The Chalk River reactor in Ontario, Canada, however, is expected to resume production Friday after being closed for routine maintenance.
