Carriers vie for advantage from new iPhone

If Apple unveils its new iPhone on Wednesday as expected, wireless carriers will be concerned about more than just the handset's snazzy new technology: They'll be trying to figure out the economics of a device that analysts say will be snapped up by at least 10 million people within weeks. The huge subsidies carriers pay to Apple have put pressure on carriers' bottom lines, but they also see a potential bonanza in data revenues from the phone. Ahead of the release, owners of iPhones have been dumping their older models.
