Indian state sees blood-supply shortage due to festivities

More than 100 blood banks in the Indian state of West Bengal are facing a severe supply shortage following the celebrations of major festivals in October that shifted attention of social organizations and clubs away from blood-donation events. The situation has caused problems for thalassemia and blood cancer patients who require regular blood transfusions, said the West Bengal Voluntary Blood Donors' Forum general secretary.
