It remains true that older workers, particularly during a recession, can face more difficulties when applying for jobs because of age discrimination. Last year, employment-based age discrimination claims rose 29% from the previous fiscal year. When applying for a job, older applicants should highlight the value of their past experiences and years of accumulating expert knowledge. Social-networking sites can also prove helpful in creating a personal brand and showing professional affiliations that speak to a prospect's expertise.
