Top 10: Fresh Market's turnaround plan, new snack rollouts and Chick-fil-A's promotion

The news that Fresh Market plans to shutter 15 stores over nine states within the next several weeks as part of its turnaround program topped the list of most-read food and beverage stories this week. In other grocery retail news, Lidl’s reevaluation of its US growth strategy also made the week’s top ten. The European grocer has added only five new locations thus far this year, following its entry into the American grocery category last year.

SmartBrief’s CPG readers were drawn to the news that PepsiCo, General Mills and Hormel were among the brands debuting new snack items. Also hitting home with consumer packaged goods readers were stories from Conagra Brands, J.M. Smucker and Planters.

Restaurant readers were interested in a story about Chick-fil-A’s 14th annual Cow Appreciation Day promotion, during which the chain offered free food to visitors who dressed like a cow, as well as the news that Oprah Winfrey invested in True Food Kitchen.
