Top 10: Amazon’s grocery plans, Taco Bell’s digital store model, Honest Co.’s IPO

Amazon’s plans to open its first four grocery stores in East Coast cities soared to the top spot on this week’s list of most-read food-and-beverage stories at SmartBrief. The e-commerce giant didn’t say which banner the new supermarkets would fly, but did report on its recruiting efforts to hire hundreds of employees to staff the locations. 

Also in the grocery world, Wegmans and Publix made the list of  Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For, with the former landing in the top 10 at No. 4. An update from Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen on the grocer’s plan to focus growth efforts on its fresh food offerings and digital capabilities also rated with readers. 

Restaurant stories grabbed some spots on the list this week, including the National Restaurant Association’s guidance for operators looking for help from the American Rescue Plan’s Restaurant Revitalization Fund.

Taco Bell’s unveiling of a digital-centric restaurant in Times Square proved popular. The store in one of the busiest spots in New York City is set up to serve digital orders and will include a separate entrance with access to cubbies for takeout and delivery orders and on-site ordering kiosks that will also sell branded Taco Bell merchandise.

The top story this week in CPG news is a plan by The Honest Co. to raise $100 million in an initial public stock offering that values the company at about $2 billion. Actress Jessica Alba started the direct-to-consumer brand a decade ago to sell goods like diapers, baby wipes and other personal care and household products.
