Leadership

SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: How many meetings do you have a week at work?

  • 1-5 – 43%
  • 6-10 – 24%
  • More than 10 – 17%
  • It’s completely unpredictable – 11%
  • None – 5%

For many people, one meeting is one too many but perhaps perpetual meeting overload is on the decline. Almost 50% of people have five or less meetings a week and less than one in five have more than 10. We all know that meetings can be critical but too many can be indicative of company with a serious control or strategic problem. Perhaps the cost of those meetings in light of the recession wasn’t lost on managers either.
