SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter and feature analysis from SmartBrief on Workforce Senior Editor Mary Ellen Slayter on this blog.
Last week’s poll question: Would you be willing to hire a convicted felon?
- It would depend on the circumstances, 57%
- No, 26%
- Yes, 17%
Finding a job when you have a criminal record is highly challenging, but most SmartBrief on Workforce readers say they would keep an open mind about hiring someone who had been convicted of a felony. Obviously, it would depend on the nature of the offense, and how old it is. If that’s your approach, research backs you up, finding that time since the offense is the most important factor.
