While mobile Web surfing is empowering users to access information all over the globe, community information is still hard to find. With unlimited mobile Web access comes the desire for more local information, and some businesses are catching on to the potential of these untapped markets, indicating a serious shift toward all things local. AOL’s Patch has plans to “digitize entire towns” and provide users with the kind of information you’re not likely to find with a regular Web search. eBay is readying itself as well, and is preparing to launch a local news service in Honolulu that will “produce original, in-depth reporting and analysis of local issues in Hawaii.”
