News of General Mills’ new yogurt brand YQ got the most clicks from SmartBrief food and beverage readers this week. YQ by Yoplait has up to 17 grams of protein and as little as one gram of sugar in a 5.3-ounce container. Expected on store shelves in about two weeks, it is made with ultrafiltered milk to remove more than 99% of the lactose and is being marketed to consumers who are seeking a healthy lifestyle, said Yoplait’s Doug Martin.
Tyson’s “three primary filters” for evaluating potential company acquisitions also made news, along with Kroger’s closure and sale of its 14 stores in the Raleigh-Durham market, as well as Starbucks’ plans to shutter 150 underperforming company-owned locations. Trending in CPG news were stories about Nestle’s startup growth model and Kellogg’s “Jurassic World” cookie and cereal boxes that feature a movie screen.
On the culinary side, Osteria Francescana being chosen as the world’s best restaurant caught readers’ attention, along with a report showing that millennials tend to be the worst tippers among all demographics.
