Pa. third-grade students act out reading assignments on stage

Third-graders from two Pennsylvania schools are spending one reading period each week at an arts center participating in the McKees Rocks through the Readers Theater Program, in which they collaborate on scripts, costumes and act out stories on stage. Students focus on vocabulary and pronunciation before taking the stage, but parts are read aloud, not memorized, said Janet Katic, one of the teachers.
