Last week, we asked: Does your company prefer internal hires over external candidates?
- Yes, we prefer the insiders, 47%
- No, we just treat them equally, 41%
- No, we prefer outsiders, 13%
I’ve worked for companies that that prefer inside hires and companies that treat both equally, and that seems to play out in the poll results. There are some positives for both types, but I’m of the opinion that you treat each equally in hopes of getting the best candidate regardless. This puts pressure squarely on a training department to help produce internal candidates and keep employees happy that there are ample opportunities to move up in the company.
