There are really only two kinds of social media contests. The best ones are all about users: pictures, videos, rants and raves that all focus on customers and their real, honest-to-goodness feelings. The other (much, much lamer kind) are all about the brand. Yawn. These kinds of contests are essentially asking users to produce commercials for free. Who wants to do that? B. L.
