News of Nestle USA’s elimination of its direct store delivery system for frozen ice cream and pizza sparked interest among SmartBrief’s food and beverage readers this week. The company will switch to a warehouse model by mid-2020, which it already uses for its frozen snacks and meals.

The departure of Kraft Heinz Chief Marketing and Global Brand Officer Eduardo Luz also rated with readers, as did Tyson’s impending plant-based meat substitute and Mondelez’s exploration of CBD-infused snacks. “Yes, we’re getting ready, but we obviously want to stay within what is legal and play it the right way,” said Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put.

On the restaurant side, readers were interested in a story about ricotta dumplings, as well as the announcement of this year’s James Beard winners.

Finally, food retail readers enjoyed news about how Walmart uses demographics for its merchandising strategies and the Cub Foods CEO’s belief in the company’s growth trajectory despite not yet finding a buyer.
