Unlocking hidden innovation

Leadership

SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in SmartBrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and human resources practitioners. We run the poll question each Thursday in our e-newsletter.

Last week, we asked: Do you think your employees are innovative enough?

  • Yes, but the company doesn’t do enough to push it: 47%
  • No, our employees are not innovative enough: 31%
  • Yes, we have innovation running through our veins: 14%
  • No, our employees don’t need to be innovative: 7%

Nearly half of respondents said they have innovative employees, but companies don’t do enough to unlock it. Getting the most out of employees isn’t only some formula you can follow; managers also tend to skip simple things such as asking for feedback and making simple fixes and improvements. Those moves can start employees down the road of unlocking their innovative side.
