Most popular this week was the James Beard Foundation’s announcement of semifinalists for 2016, followed by Burger King’s launch of grilled hot dogs with ad copy reading, “The King’s Got a Whopper … and we’re not talking about burgers.” The third most popular story included last week’s proposed legislation that would block a Vermont bill requiring states to label genetically modified foods.

Stories revolving around fresh foods and healthy eating also took the spotlight with Wal-Mart’s announcement to hire hundreds of new field managers over the next three years, as part of the retailer’s efforts to improve its fresh foods business, a company spokesman said.

News about Sonic‘s new chef is planning to add healthier fare to the menu also made the top 10 this week. “We will do healthier food, but in a Sonic way,” said Scott Uehlein, vice president of product innovation and development. “Something that is not unfamiliar to Sonic customers. We will always lead with flavor.”
